Lake Garda, thanks to its temperate climate throughout the year and the abundance of waterways in the area, has earned the title: Paradise of Gardens.
This land is home to various species of plants and flowers, attracting many botanists from around the world eager to explore its natural resources.
Below are some of the most interesting botanical parks around Lake Garda, perfect for a leisurely walk or a day trip.
Heller Botanical Garden
The botanist André Heller arrived here in the early 1900s, drawn by the unique climate.
He created a botanical garden filled with a vast variety of flora collected from his travels around the world, earning it the title: The Most Luxurious Garden of Eden.
Spanning nearly 10,000 square meters, the garden boasts 3,000 plant species from all five continents, including edelweiss, cacti, orchids, magnolias, water lilies, and various trees.
Artificial ponds and streams enhance the magical atmosphere, complemented by numerous artistic installations by renowned artists such as Mimmo Paladino, Keith Haring, and Roy Lichtenstein.
The garden charges an entrance fee, except for children under 5 years old. It is open to the public from March to October, from 9 AM to 7 PM.
The Park and Gardens of Isola del Garda
A short distance from the shores of San Felice lies Isola del Garda, a charming garden island stretching about one kilometer in length and 600 meters in width.
Originally owned by the prestigious Cavazza family, around 1900 they began designing and developing the park, introducing exotic plants and constructing surrounding walls.
Terraces in the traditional Italian garden style are enriched with various shrubs and hedges.
Walking through this stunning botanical park, visitors can admire rare plants and flowers from around the world, harmoniously arranged to form unique architectural designs, alongside exotic plants like prickly pears and palms.
The garden also features roses from diverse climates, unique flowers, numerous aromatic plants, and a lush orchard.
The elegant villa is embraced by wild nature; the flatter areas of the park host a wide variety of shrubs and trees such as laurel, cedar, poplar, fir, and plane trees, offering visitors a captivating and beautiful experience.
Guided tours of the Isola del Garda Botanical Park are available from April to October, following schedules set by the Cavazza family, lasting about two hours.
The Park of Vittoriale degli Italiani
This monumental residence was designed and built by the famous poet-soldier Gabriele D'Annunzio with architect Giancarlo Maroni.
The project serves as a grand monument celebrating the feats of Italians during World War I, which inspired its name.
The park includes an amphitheater, a complex of buildings, a ship, small valleys, sculptures, waterways, and numerous artworks designed by the poet or collected and gifted to him during his many travels.
The Vittoriale degli Italiani Park perfectly blends art and nature, with sculptures, statues, small squares, and narrow paths.
From the blooming belvedere, visitors can reach the orchard, D'Annunzio's favorite place, inspired by Renaissance gardens and surrounded by lilies and stone animals.
This enchanting park is open all year round, and entrance requires a ticket.
