Desenzano is certainly one of the most beautiful villages on the shores of Lake Garda.
Belonging to the province of Brescia, it overlooks the southern shores of the lake, just a few kilometers from Sirmione.
An ancient village of Roman origin, Desenzano is famous for its castle and the old port, where visitors can enjoy romantic walks.
In addition to its beautiful village and lake-related activities, this area has always been dedicated to viticulture, producing renowned wines famous worldwide.
Let’s now explore the main wineries of Desenzano, their history, and their products.
- Ca Maiol Founded in 1967 by Walter Contato, this winery is closely linked to a wine that has always represented the Garda region: Lugana. It was the foresight of its founder that convinced local winemakers to create the Lugana DOC Protection Consortium. Over time, the company has grown and today boasts over 110 hectares of vineyards, mostly Turbiana, the typical Garda Trebbiano grape from which Lugana is produced, creating a wine with a local character that also captivates international connoisseurs.
- Montonale Antica A winery founded in the early 1900s when the founder, Francesco Girelli, cleared the first two hectares of land in the Conta area to dedicate to vine cultivation. In addition to Turbiana, they cultivate Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The company expanded to over sixty hectares of vineyards until disputes interrupted the dream, leading to almost all the vines being uprooted. It was only in 2002 that Francesco Girelli’s descendants managed to revive the winery, and in just a few years, thanks to hard work and the success of its wines, the company grew rapidly and now boasts numerous excellent products.
- Azienda Agricola Casello Bondoni A winery that seeks to combine tradition with innovation, Casello Bondoni focuses on the highest quality in its wine production. With its 25 hectares of vineyards, mainly composed of Turbiana, Marzemino, and Rosé. The name derives from a small house where customs guards lived in the 19th century and the family that later took ownership of the land. Hence the name Casello Bondoni. The Tomasi family, originally from Veneto and dedicated to livestock farming, purchased the land in 1914, and the vineyards are still cared for by the Tomasi descendants.
- Famiglia Olivini Established in the 1970s, this winery, through dedication and expertise in vine cultivation, transfers all the minerality from the limestone clays of the Lake Garda area into its wines. Every detail is carefully managed, with vines propagated through grafting and the best qualities selected over the years. Continuous investments in state-of-the-art machinery and innovative technologies allow the production of the highest quality products. The great Lugana tradition is enhanced by selecting only the best plants from the oldest vineyards to obtain a product of exceptional aromatic quality.
